This work developed two oxygen-independent selenophene-viologen photosensitizers (HASeV and QASeV) with enhanced bacterial membrane affinity. QASeV electrostatically binds to Porphyromonas gingivalis and Fusobacterium nucleatum, while HASeV penetrates membranes via hydrophobic interactions. Under light irradiation (350-600 nm), HASeV shows superior antimicrobial activity and biofilm disruption versus QASeV. In periodontitis rats, HASeV-aPDT significantly reduced subgingival flora diversity (16S rRNA sequencing) and attenuated inflammation/alveolar bone loss (histology/Micro-CT), demonstrating its potential for clinical application.
